As co-leader of the Trusts and Estates practice group, Myles counsels clients across New York and Florida on sophisticated estate planning, administration and tax matters. His focus includes estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax planning, income tax planning and business succession planning through creative and tailored strategies such as grantor-retained interest trusts, split-interest charitable trusts, sales to intentionally defective grantor trusts, life insurance and split-dollar planning, dynastic trust planning, asset protection and vacation home planning. Myles is experienced in advising high net-worth families and coordinating the implementation of the planning among a family’s professional advisory team.

Myles reviews and drafts estate planning documents and handles the corresponding preparation and review of federal and New York state estate tax returns; federal gift tax and generation-skipping transfer tax returns; and federal and New York state fiduciary income tax returns.  Myles advises fiduciaries (both individuals and corporate) and beneficiaries with respect to estate and trust administration matters within the Surrogate’s Court, and the related tax and non-tax reporting obligations.  Myles also represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to efficiently resolve disputed matters.

Myles advises individual and corporate clients, including tax exempt organizations, with respect to issues at the intersection of tax and labor and employment matters including executive compensation.  Myles advises clients on state and local sales and use tax matters and, with respect to tax exempt organizations, on planned giving programs and the prudent management and expenditure of endowment funds.
