Jodie, managing partner of Harris Beach Murtha’s New Haven office, is an accomplished real estate lawyer who guides clients through the acquisition, sale, financing, leasing and development of commercial properties. She also regularly represents borrowers in tax-exempt bond transactions.

Known for applying a combination of legal knowledge, drive and experience to every matter, Jodie represents a cross-section of clients, including long-term care facilities, commercial real estate owners, tax-exempt organizations, community banks, municipalities and public utilities.

Jodie’s familiarity with the Connecticut commercial real estate market is vital to clients seeking to buy and sell property, embark on construction projects or fund transactions. In addition to negotiating and drafting purchase agreements, preparing conveyance documents and reviewing due diligence materials, she regularly helps clients obtain financing for their acquisitions. She brings deep experience in conventional lending, refinancing, tax-exempt bonds, HUD loans and lines of credit. Since 2019, she has helped borrowers and lenders close deals valued at more than $200 million through various loan structures.

  • Represented several well-known long-term care clients in tax-exempt bond financings for construction or renovation of assisted living and skilled nursing facilities; HUD-insured financing for existing facilities; assumption of HUD-insured financing in connection with acquisitions; conventional financing and refinancing of facilities; and the purchase and sale of facilities. Many of the tax-exempt financings allowed clients to complete projects that expanded their operations and allowed them to serve additional members of the community.
  • Counseled a public utility in purchasing a parcel of land owned by an energy company.
  • Represented a public water utility in the acquisition of 150 acres of farmland in a public watershed.
  • Represented community bank lenders in closing conventional loans secured by real estate or personal property. Handled preparation and negotiation of loan documents, review of due diligence materials and closing details.
  • Advised a private university in Connecticut in an $18 million tax-exempt bond refunding transaction that provided significant savings through better terms and lower rates.
  • Represented municipalities and public utilities in the purchase and sale of real estate as well as matters related to granting and receiving easement and access rights.
  • Advised tax-exempt organizations in securing tax-exempt financing for construction or acquisition of real property.
