Selma Al Taii is a first-generation law graduate whose path to the legal profession began long before law school. With nearly a decade of intensive experience in civil litigation, government contracts, corporate transactions and international matters, Selma brings a seasoned, practical perspective to her work in the health care industry.
As a member of the Health Care Industry Team, Selma advises a wide range of clients in the health care industry, including large regional health systems, community and specialty hospitals, urgent care centers, long-term care facilities, home health care providers and individual practitioners on a wide range of regulatory, operational and litigation issues.
Selma’s practice is primarily focused on defending health care practitioners and institutions against professional liability claims. Her work also includes counseling health care clients on federal and state regulatory compliance, patient privacy laws, professional disciplinary matters and day-to-day operational needs.
Her background before law school includes extensive experience managing high-stakes litigation from initial pleadings through trial. Selma has drafted complaints, motions, discovery requests and appellate briefs, and has researched federal and state procedural rules to ensure complete compliance. She has overseen large-scale document reviews, coordinated responses to subpoenas and assisted in government investigations involving the SEC and OFAC. Her litigation experience also spans employment disputes, government contracts, international trade and corporate governance matters.
In addition to her litigation background, Selma has deep experience in business and transactional work. She has handled entity formations and dissolutions, drafted and edited bylaws and commercial agreements researched state corporate filing requirements nationwide and guided clients through government contractor registrations, including SAM.gov and DUNS. She has also supported clients in bid protests and regulatory submissions. As a fluent Arabic speaker originally from the Middle East, Selma has assisted U.S. and international clients with corporate, regulatory and procedural research in the UAE, Jordan, and Qatar, adding a cross-border dimension to her practice.
Selma’s commitment to health care law was further strengthened through her work in the New York State Unified Court System and the Albany Law School Health Law Clinic, where she assisted in drafting judicial decisions and representing clients in health-related legal matters.
