Tiger Woods will soon come to Long Island to work on a project teed up by Harris Beach Murtha’s Jack Martins.
Newsday (subscription may be required), Sports Illustrated and Golf Digest recently reported that Woods, along with his design firm, TGR Design, is partnering with Harris Beach Murtha client Armchair Collective to redesign and rebuild the shuttered Tam O’Shanter Country Club and surrounding farmland in Brookville.
The project, located only 21 miles from midtown Manhattan, will feature a private 18-hole golf course, new practice facilities, a golf performance center, a Himalayas-style putting course and a new clubhouse. Construction could start as early as 2027.
Jack, who co-leads the firm’s Real Estate Developers Industry Team, is providing counsel throughout the project’s approval process, including coordinating with local, state and federal officials, shepherding the application process and attempting to secure all discretionary approvals required for construction.
The property was originally part of the Linden Estate, officially known as Linden Hill, built in the early part of the 20th century. The Armchair Collective, a private golf company, purchased the land in September after Brookville amended its zoning code, and is committed to building a world class golf club.
Jack advises a wide range of clients – including national and multinational corporations, real estate developers, individual property owners, municipalities and not-for-profit organizations – on matters such as land use and zoning, environmental approvals, construction contract disputes, contract negotiations, insurance coverage, and municipal rezoning. Using his experience in Article 78 commercial litigation, Jack has been the legal architect behind myriad projects on Long Island, including transit-oriented, multi-family and mixed-use housing developments, as well as innovative conversion projects like golf courses.
