Robert Murray, Harris Beach’s Buffalo Office Managing Partner, recently spoke to Buffalo Business First for an article on brownfield redevelopment.

Brownfield sites are contaminated parcels of land, and New York State’s Brownfield Cleanup Program offers tax incentives to developers that remediate contaminated land to revitalize communities.
Murray said brownfield sites can be anywhere and that the redevelopment has largely contributed to Buffalo’s revitalization over the last twenty years. “You don’t know what’s contaminated,” he said. “Whenever there’s a surprise moment, that’s where this program fits nicely. If you’re a buyer or a seller, wherever there’s contaminated land, that’s where there’s an escape hatch.”

Murray leads the firm’s Brownfield Redevelopment Service and is a member of the Commercial Real Estate, Environmental and Public Finance and Economic Development practice groups.
