Harris Beach’s Myles Fischer will present on the Becoming a Voluntary Administrator Act on Feb. 23 to raise awareness and support for the legislation.
Myles, a partner who serves in our Wills, Trusts and Estates Practice Group, counsels clients across New York and Florida on sophisticated estate planning, administration and tax matters. He is presenting on behalf of the Retirement Benefits Committee of the Trusts & Estates Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. The presentation to the Bar Association’s President’s Committee on Access to Justice is a segment in a series of presentations designed to ultimately obtain the backing of the New York State Bar Association to advance the legislation.
The Becoming a Voluntary Administrator Act updates the current laws governing the voluntary administration process, including providing deference to a testator’s expressed wishes as to executor succession, permitting multiple nominated executors to serve simultaneously as voluntary administrators, and permitting the guardian of property of an otherwise eligible distributee, as well as the fiduciary of a post-deceased distributee, to become voluntary administrators.
