Daniel R. Canavan, who recently joined Harris Beach Murtha’s Energy Industry Team, was featured in a Law360 article. The story highlights Dan’s career, including his executive-level experience and his senior legal positions as a utility regulatory attorney, and reasons he joined the firm.
Immediately prior to joining the firm, Dan served as the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for Avangrid, Inc., during which he led the state regulatory organization for Connecticut and Massachusetts-based utilities. “I felt that my highest and best use would be to take what I learned from that position, and the gravitational pull of my career was back into the legal profession,” Dan said.
Dan also discussed his decision to join Harris Beach Murtha, citing his relationships with attorneys at Murtha Cullina LLP and the combination with Harris Beach PLLC as key factors.
“[Harris Beach had] a strong energy team in New York, and the Murtha side is in Connecticut and Massachusetts,” he said. “I deepen their bench in New England, and it just seemed like a great opportunity, because now it’s a much larger firm, with a much larger energy practice, and that support we’re going to need from time to time is going to be there.”
“As we continue to grow our industry-leading Energy practice throughout the Northeast, Dan brings practical experience and a client’s perspective to the team,” said William M. Flynn, leader of the firm’s Energy Industry Team. “The energy field is transforming rapidly throughout the nation and in particular across New York state, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Harris Beach Murtha attorneys are responsible for keeping our clients abreast of the latest developments and providing common-sense answers that turn their immediate challenges into long-term opportunities. Dan is well-versed in both the legal and business challenges facing our clients, and he brings a wealth of experience to the firm.”
