Jason, co-leader of the Harris Beach Murtha Cannabis Industry Team, co-presented along with Will Brophy, Chief Operating Officer of Nabis; Ryan Martin, owner of MJ Dispensary; and Sade McCallan, manager of Emerging Initiatives for the City of Rochester. Harris Beach Murtha sponsored the Aug. 21 event.
Jason outlined legal issues shaping the industry, particularly those affecting dispensary real estate, in the Rochester Business Journal article. He discussed the state’s revised interpretation of the 500-foot buffer between dispensaries and schools, saying it affected more than 150 dispensaries across New York, many of whom are suing over the matter. Jason said lawmakers might have to resolve the issue.
“We are finding that retail property is a flashpoint with cannabis right now,” he said.
