This CLE program offers Connecticut municipal attorneys a fast paced, pragmatic exploration of how artificial intelligence is transforming local government—and the legal and ethical responsibilities that come with it. Designed for CAMA’s membership, who represent roughly two thirds of Connecticut’s cities and towns, the presentation focuses on educating and informing municipal counsel about emerging AI related legal issues while supporting CAMA’s mission to advance the interests of local government. The session covers the core technologies driving AI adoption; real world municipal use cases relevant to law departments, land use, public safety, finance, public works, and constituent services; and the top legal, operational, and ethical risks associated with AI deployment, including bias, privacy, due process, transparency, vendor oversight, and workforce impact.
The program can also include an optional ethics component, offering updates on attorney obligations when using AI tools, risk mitigation strategies, and lessons learned from high‑profile disciplinary cases involving AI‑generated errors. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of the opportunities AI presents for improving municipal operations, the legal frameworks governing responsible adoption, and a practical roadmap for establishing governance policies, conducting bias audits, training staff, engaging the public, and safely piloting AI technologies within Connecticut towns.
