Immigration Partner Brendan Venter will present at the 2024 National Postdoctoral Association Conference on March 15th in Seattle, Washington. A description of Brendan’s session, “Going for Green: How International Postdocs Can Pursue a “Green Card” in the United States,” can be found below:

This session will provide an overview of the permanent residency (“green card”) options available to international postdocs. The session will cover both employer-sponsored green card processes, as well as those for which postdocs may be able to “self-petition,” including the National Interest Waiver and the Individual of Extraordinary Ability categories. A general overview of the legal requirements/criteria, the process, and the timeline will be provided, as well as an in-depth analysis of strategies for how to best position oneself to have a successful petition. The session will discuss in detail some of the most common activities in which postdocs can engage during their work/research in order to enhance their chances of success. The goal is to provide postdocs with an understanding of ways they can best position themselves to have a smooth transition from a temporary visa status (J-1, H-1B, etc.) to a permanent resident status.
